Traffic Light Diet

Dr. La Puma Prescribes the Traffic Light Diet

Help your child fill up on nutrient and fiber dense foods.

Go (high nutrient, high energy foods, medium and low calorie): Beans, salads, vegetables, nuts, whole grain (not sugary) cereals, fish, fruits, tofu hot dogs, soy veggie burgers, lean meats and poultry, almost all soups

Slow (sneaky calorie, easy crash foods): Eggs scrambled in fat, tortilla chips, crackers, white rice, muffins, buttered popcorn, ice cream, cheese

Whoa (high-fat, high-calorie foods): Fried anything--bacon, sausage, potato chips, french fries; plus candy, soda, sugary cereals, white bread, fatty meats and poultry
